The Story of Tangle Bay: A Pillar of the IOTA Ecosystem
Tangle Bay was established in 2018 by No8ody, the visionary founder of einfachIOTA, as a response to shifting priorities. Recognizing that infrastructure services no longer aligned with einfachIOTA's evolving mission, No8ody spun off these operations into a dedicated platform: Tangle Bay.
Early Growth and Community Support
From its inception, Tangle Bay focused on operating IOTA nodes, quickly gaining recognition for its reliability and commitment. As the IOTA community grew, so too did Tangle Bay’s role within it. Supporters across the ecosystem began to rely on its infrastructure services, establishing Tangle Bay as a trusted provider.
A Crucial Role in IOTA Upgrades
Tangle Bay’s importance peaked during two transformative moments for the IOTA network: the Chrysalis and Stardust upgrades. During these critical transitions, Tangle Bay served as the only official node operator alongside the IOTA Foundation. This responsibility underscored the platform’s technical expertise and pivotal role in ensuring network stability.
While Tangle Bay initially supported the Shimmer network as well, operations for Shimmer nodes were concluded in the fall of 2024, reflecting the evolution of the ecosystem and its services.
Innovation and Tool Development
Tangle Bay didn’t stop at node operations. It also introduced tools to simplify access to the IOTA ecosystem. The SWARM script, for example, became a popular solution for effortless installation and maintenance of IOTA nodes. However, as the ecosystem adopted the official Docker installation method, Tangle Bay gracefully retired SWARM to focus on newer priorities.
In addition, the platform provided official entry nodes for IOTA/Shimmer autopeering and offered snapshot sources to streamline node synchronization. These services, like Shimmer node operations, were also phased out in late 2024 as part of the platform's strategic shift.
A New Era with IOTA Rebased
As Tangle Bay looks to the future, it is embarking on a new chapter with IOTA Rebased. This initiative will see the platform operating a professional validator designed with independence and security in mind. By relying on proprietary hardware and self-managed locations, Tangle Bay aims to set new standards for reliability, ensuring its continued relevance in the decentralized ecosystem.
